Social Studies Department at Queen Anne School

 

The Social Studies Department at Queen Anne School offers courses that will enable students to make informed decisions in their lives and become valuable citizens in an ever changing world of global communication, commerce, and interactivity. Students are challenged to accomplish these goals through lively class discussions, active participation in service projects, integrated use of technology with traditional classroom lectures, scholarly research, and multi-media presentations.  

In addition, students are expected to master the folowing skills which will prepare them for the challenges of college classes which include:

Writing
Writing to express ideas and facts in a clear and concise manner using correct and effectice grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structures. 

Reading
Reading for comprehension, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation in search of diverse views and growing to an informed understanding and opinion.

Research
Demonstrating research skills using the full range of in-depth, multi source print, electronic, and human resources while understanding and applying the skills of correct attributions and source identification.

Critical Analysis
Studying and conversing with others to critically analyze historical facts or differing views on various ideologies such as interpretations of history, fundamental principles of American government, and ways of interpreting the human experience.
