Student Library Aides

Queen Anne students have the opportunity to be Library Aides, supporting their library while earning community service hours and familiarizing themselves with the resources our Library offers.

Tasks performed by Student Library Aides include:

  • shelving books
  • shelf reading
  • plant care
  • dusting
  • filing periodicals
  • cataloging books
  • book processing
  • lost book check
  • accession card filing
  • de-accession books
  • catalog editing
  • setting up book displays
  • keeping circulation statistics
  • checking in books

Benefits of being a Student Library Aide include:

  • earn community service hours
  • be among the first to know what new books are available
  • add to your resume (for jobs and colleges)
  • know where to find the resources you need for class
  • field trip to the Library of Congress and another library

Requirements of Student Library Aides include:

  • one week of summer training and service (usually early June)
  • one day of service in August, to help prepare for opening day
  • a minimum of one hour of service per week through out the school year
  • occasional extra hours (for Open House, Family Day, etc.)
  • recommendations from your advisor and another teacher
  • parental permission
